Prisoners, themselves segregated from society, bury the dead completing the cycle of unceremonious and unrecognised burial. This proposal suggests both regeneration and redevelopment, designed to not only recognise those buried, and to be buried on hart island, but also to address the phenomena of mass burial of the impoverished and forgotten. It also aims to provide a dignity to those already buried as well as the island itself through the planting of river reeds to reduce erosion and restoration and adaptive-reuse of existing buildings.
