IE ex gratia is a project located in Manhattan’s Meat Packing District addressing the city’s increasing number of people without housing. This led to the proposal of emergency housing, rent controlled apartments and a school. The site is the Manhattan Mini Storage building located on 502 west 17th street adjacent to the New York Highline. A vital aspect of this project was defining its parameters and scale by narrowing down and defining the complex user groups of this building. In doing so it enabled creative and practical solutions for the circulation throughout the spaces enabling the different groups to coexist.
