The process of my design for Hart Island was revolved around the idea of creating a space that will grow and evolve throughout time. This allows for people that are alone or not wealthy enough to have a place where their soul and body is a contribution to the growth of hart island. Which is where the idea of creating a memorial of a forest that includes different tree breeds that individually represent the different people that were and are still being buried on hart island, including aids victims, homeless people, infants, and covid-19 victims. Each memorial building surrounding the forest has a different purpose, whether it is used primarily to view the forest through varied viewpoints or to quietly reflect and respect the deceased.
