Life, beginning or ending, should be seen as something that is honourable and special, disregarding the status or race. This concept of enlightenment or light of life is portrayed in the building layout, replicating the subtle structure of light radiating outwards into structures of protruding walls, paving and buildings. The employment of the materials utilised are purposed to alter, reflect or provide lighting as this revolves around the concept of reflecting the souls of Hart Island back to New York City. Showcased in the utilisation of reflective glazing, as well as the white concrete creating the illuminating effect of light.
