“La Comunita Verde” is Italian for The Green Community. This is a large high quality inclusive housing project with an emphasis on financially sustainable community living.

Housing in Venice is very expensive, with many local people not able to afford accommodation. It is vital that affordable housing is built in Venice if it is to keep its local people, culture and traditions.

The proposed site is the artificial island Sacca San Biago, part of the islands of Giudecca which sit south of the central islands of Venice. Giudecca is a short three-minute boat ride from the main islands of Venice. Poviding an extraordinary location with access to the amenity of Venice within minutes.

This building project will provide 91 apartments with housing for over 300 residents. It not only provides affordable housing but also access to green spaces which are limited in the rest of Venice.

The project will be non-profit, council owned with 40 % social housing and 60% affordable housing rented from the council. The apartments will not be available for self-ownership, subletting or commercial uses such as Airbnb to ensure residents have access to the accommodation.

Housing projects such as this enable social inclusion can provide enhance quality of life as residents feel an identity that they are a part of a community.
