Hodgkison Graduate Prize in Architecture

Floating Houses are a housing solution rising in popularity in floodscape prone areas- paired with Venice’s affordability crisis, it appears to be an appropriate proposal. My site, the Arsenale, remains a rare and spacious industrial zone, unclear of its future direction. For hundreds of years, it built floating structures to prosper and defend the city. Now it must do the same for Venetian clients looking for a new home. Continuing to function as a production line (a concept invented by the Arsenale), my project pushes the boundaries of a manufacturing shed, into architecture that could represent Venice’s position as a potential world leader in floating technologies.
